Happy Friday! I hope your children had a great first few days at school. We had a lot of fun getting to know each other, playing games, and learning classroom rules. I sent home a letter today to introduce myself and with a link to this website.
You also might notice some math work coming home today that may look unfamiliar to you. Today I introduced Touchmath. Touchmath is a multisensory math program that uses dots (touch points) on numbers to help students add, subtract and multiply. I find that Touchmath can be used as a tool to support students with a strategy to add and subtract without using their fingers. When using their fingers, they often forget how many they have counted and end up with the wrong answer. I'm posting two videos below to show you how this program works. Ask your child to show you how to count the numbers 1-5 using their touch points. We will be learning numbers 6-9 next week. Contact me if you have any questions!
Have a great weekend!
